I wanted to let you all know that the commissioners of Fire District no
8 decided Not to pursue trying to have our Kachess roads designated as
emergency evacuation routes. There about 10 people in the audience and
they were all opposed to it. There were some good suggestions including
better signaled, public education, and homeowners calling the sheriff
when cars are parked in such a way as to block roads (There were
several
instances of the emergency equipment being blocked this winter, mostly
down in the village, by people parked on the road.). It was uncertain
what impact designation would have had on the snow park but it was made
clear to the commissioners that the snowpark was essential for
overnight
parking for people in Kachess Ridge as well as at Baker Camp. The $1000
parking fine was clearly an unpopular idea with most everyone.
The Commissioners made their decision right on the spot which was nice.
They will also contact each person individually in the future.
Yours, Janet Nelson
